About This Wiki

What is this?

I became determined to learn how to cook, and the catch is that I'm cooking for a family with significant dietary restrictions. Due to food allergies to nuts, eggs, milk, soy, and miscellaneous other things, we have to be pretty creative when we're coming up with new recipe ideas. Nobody wants to eat spaghetti every night!

I've started documenting the recipes that I try, with comments regarding how it turned out. Here are some of the reasons for this project:

  • It helps me when I need to cook something a second time (or remember that it was terrible)
  • It helps friends and relatives who need safe food ideas for our kids
  • Hopefully it will help other food allergic individuals and their families
  • Hopefully it will help anyone else looking for a new recipe to try

Here are some other Links to have a look at when you have time to browse.

Didn't you already have a blog?

I've moved here from the What's Really Cooking blog because I believe that this format is more conducive to the archival nature of this collection of recipes. The blog will no longer be updated, so please return here to see any recipes posted after December 2005.

What the heck is a wiki?

A wiki is essentially an online collection of searchable articles that can be edited or added to by anyone (although this wiki is currently "read-only"). A great example is the online encyclopedia Wikipedia. In fact, here's the Wikipedia article on wikis.

Although this wiki is currently not available for editing by the general public, I hope to (someday) begin opening it up for recipes contributed by readers. First we're going to put this new format through its paces, then we'll see.

One way to enjoy the new format immediately (besides the easy-to-read formatting) is with the search features. The inherent search capabilities available in the wiki format are great when you're looking for recipes with particular ingredients. (There's a search box on every page...) Try searching for chicken or basil, for example.

How do I find the recipes?

Each recipe lives on its own page, so finding a recipe is as simple as finding its page. Our host requires page names without spaces, so the naming convention is the recipe name with no spaces. Really, all of that is unimportant, because the search feature is the beauty of this format. Try these methods for finding or browsing recipes...

  • Search all recipes with the "Search Here" box on the top and bottom toolbars
  • See recent updates or additions with the Changes link above
  • Browse all recipes by clicking the All Pages link above
  • Try a random recipe: Random Page (refresh this page for a new one)

I have a suggestion...

If you have comments or suggestions after trying these recipes (or before, for that matter), please email them to me at patrick.dylan AT gmail DOT com, and I will share your experiences here (if you wish). Since the wiki format can allow anyone to edit any page, at some point I may start allowing people to add their own comments, or even their own recipes, but I'm not quite ready for that yet. :)

How can I stay on top of changes and new content?

You can track added and updated recipes using an RSS reader. Here are some links to get you started:
